The Kaduna State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has dismissed claims by former governor Nasir El-Rufai that its political structures in the state have been collapsed into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.
In a statement issued on Monday, the State Chairman of the party, Adamu Idris, described El-Rufai’s comments as “spurious and false,” stressing that the SDP remains intact and is repositioning itself as a credible opposition force in Kaduna.
Idris recalled that El-Rufai’s brief stint in the SDP was characterized by internal disputes and disruptions, noting that stability and peace had since returned to the party following his exit.
“Our structures are robust and alive across Kaduna State. We are committed to promoting the true interests of Nigerians and will not be distracted by attempts to sow division,” the chairman stated.
The SDP further accused the former governor of pursuing self-serving political interests, insisting that his recent claims do not reflect the realities on the ground.
It was reported that El-Rufai, alongside some opposition leaders, had announced at the weekend that the entire SDP structure in Kaduna had been merged into the ADC during a strategic meeting chaired by him.
