The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended its immediate past Speaker, Aondona Dajoh, for three months over an alleged attempt to impeach Governor Hyacinth Alia.

The suspension followed a motion raised by Terna Shimawua, representing Kyan State Constituency, and seconded by James Umoru from Apa Constituency. Shimawua was among lawmakers earlier suspended by Dajoh before his resignation as Speaker last week.

Ruling on the motion, current Speaker Alfred Berger reduced the suspension from six months to three, bypassing the usual voting process.

In a related development, the Assembly reversed its earlier stance and confirmed Timothy Yangien Ornguga as commissioner. Ornguga, a law lecturer at Benue State University, Makurdi, had been previously rejected under Dajoh’s leadership.
