The Anambra State House of Assembly has suspended Bernard Udemezue, the lawmaker representing Ayamelum Constituency, for three months over a social media post deemed unparliamentary.

The suspension was announced during Tuesday’s plenary following a report by the House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges chaired by Majority Leader Ikenna Ofodeme, member representing Ekwusigo Constituency. The committee recommended that Udemezue be barred from the Assembly for the duration of the suspension without pay.

Udemezue had shared a WhatsApp message with constituents disclosing his legislative allowances and revealing that lawmakers receive N10 million quarterly from the state government for constituency projects. The disclosure reportedly angered his colleagues.

Defending his action, Udemezue maintained that he did nothing wrong, stressing that his aim was to keep his constituents informed about his activities in the Assembly. He alleged victimization, claiming that some lawmakers divert their constituency project funds and were angered by his revelation.
