The economic prospects of 500 women in Abia State received a major boost on Thursday as they each received grants of ₦50,000 under the Renewed Hope Initiative Women Economic Empowerment Programme.
The programme, launched in Abia State by the First Lady of Abia, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, on behalf of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, was organised in collaboration with the Tony Elumelu Foundation.
The beneficiaries, made up of women traders and small-scale business owners, are expected to inject the funds into their businesses to drive growth, strengthen their families, and contribute to community development.
In her remarks, Mrs. Otti commended Senator Tinubu for what she described as a “visionary initiative” aimed at empowering women across the nation. She also lauded the Tony Elumelu Foundation for partnering with the Federal Government to support women entrepreneurs in Abia.
“This programme is not just about supporting businesses; it is about securing the future of families, educating children, and uplifting entire communities,” Mrs. Otti said.
The Renewed Hope Initiative has been launched in several states across the country, targeting women as a critical force in economic stability and nation building.
