President Bola Tinubu has lifted the state of emergency in Rivers State, paving the way for Governor Siminalayi Fubara to return to office on Thursday, September 18.

The announcement was contained in a statement from the Presidency on Wednesday, confirming that Deputy Governor Ngozi Nma Odu and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, are also to resume their official duties.

Tinubu had imposed the emergency rule in the oil-rich state six months ago amid heightened political tension.

“It therefore gives me great pleasure to declare that the emergency in Rivers State of Nigeria shall end with effect from midnight today,” the President said while formally lifting the measure.

With the directive, normal governance activities are set to resume in the state beginning Thursday.
