The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has alleged that there was a plot to assassinate him during the 2019 general elections.Wike made the claim during an interview with
Channels Television on Thursday, accusing former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, of orchestrating the move.
According to Wike, a former General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, identified as General Saham, was instructed to carry out the attack.
“General Saham, former General Officer Commanding 6 Division, tried to kill me. Amaechi promised to make him the next Chief of Staff. General Saham ordered that I should be shot,” Wike alleged.
He explained that the order was resisted by a colonel, who consequently faced a lengthy detention.
“When I heard that he is now in the NSA office, I refused to go there. General Saham ordered that, as a sitting governor, I should be shot. And when the Colonel refused, he was detained for six months,” Wike said.
The former Rivers State governor further noted that many opposition governors now complaining of persecution had not faced the kind of threats he endured while in office.
