Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, has expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for restoring democratic governance in the state after six months of emergency rule declared on March 18, 2025, following intense political crisis.
In a statewide broadcast on Friday, September 19, 2025, Governor Fubara described the period under emergency rule as “enormously challenging” but said he chose cooperation with the President and the National Assembly over confrontation in the interest of peace, stability, and progress of Rivers State.
The Governor commended President Tinubu for brokering peace among political leaders, including himself, the Honourable members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and former Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON. He declared that the political crisis was now behind the state, urging all stakeholders to put aside differences and work for the common good.
“On behalf of the Government and the good people of Rivers State, I extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mr. President for his fatherly disposition and decisive interventions in resolving the political crisis and for graciously restoring full democratic governance to our State,” Fubara stated.
He assured Rivers people that governance would return to full swing, with priority given to completing ongoing projects, reviving the economy, protecting lives and property, and advancing development in all sectors. The Governor pledged to work harmoniously with the Rivers State House of Assembly and emphasized inclusiveness, reconciliation, and unity as guiding principles.
Fubara also thanked the leadership of the National Assembly, political stakeholders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society groups, and the people of Rivers State for their patience, resilience, and support during the emergency rule.
Concluding, he called on all citizens, irrespective of political, ethnic, or religious differences, to join hands in rebuilding Rivers State and securing a peaceful and prosperous future.
