The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has condemned the addition of Azodie to palm oil by some marketers who use it to enhance the product’s colour.
Kenneth Azikwe, Zonal Director of NAFDAC’s North Central Zone, disclosed in Minna that the practice is usually carried out at night to make the oil appear redder. He described the act as harmful and a serious health risk to consumers.
Azikwe warned that NAFDAC would not tolerate such practices and would take action against anyone found engaging in them. He reiterated the agency’s commitment to safeguarding the quality and safety of food products in the country.
He also highlighted NAFDAC’s recent efforts to regulate the industry through digital platforms such as NAPALMS, Returation Porter and the National Single Trade Window, which allow stakeholders to access services and provide feedback.
Azikwe appealed to the Niger State Government to allocate land for a permanent NAFDAC office complex in the state.
