The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has cautioned officers of the Nigeria Police Force to stay away from land disputes and other civil cases.
In a video message posted on the Force’s official X handle on Thursday, Egbetokun stressed that the police are not enforcers for private business interests.
He condemned the practice of officers escorting parties for land recovery or interfering in civil matters without clear criminal elements, warning that such actions tarnish the image of the Force.
“Every such incident erodes the neutrality of the police and brings the institution into disrepute. The line must be clear, and any officer who crosses it will face disciplinary action,” the IGP said.
