It was a gathering of eminent Nigerians and legal icons in Abuja as Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, popularly known as Ofuji Ndi Igbo, joined the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, and other high-ranking dignitaries to celebrate the elevation of Mr. Ikechukwu Uwanna, Abia State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
The high-profile event attracted top personalities from across the country, including the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi SAN, justices from the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, Federal and FCT High Courts, and the Chief Judge of Abia State, Hon. Justice Lilian Abai.
Dr. Anyaso, an Abia-born entrepreneur, philanthropist, and political figure, lauded the SAN conferment on Mr. Uwanna as a “well-deserved recognition of excellence, integrity, and service to the law.”
Coming fresh from the successful hosting of the week-long IRI JI OFUJI 2025 Festival in Abia State, Dr. Anyaso made a special trip from Lagos to Abuja to witness the landmark event. Speaking at the ceremony, he hailed Uwanna as “a remarkable gift from Abia North to Nigeria” and praised his Isuikwuato LGA for producing such an outstanding legal mind.
In his congratulatory message, Dr. Anyaso encouraged the new SAN to remain courageous and upright in the face of increasing scrutiny and challenges in the judiciary.
“It is your moment. There are many voices against the judiciary today, but you must be resolute and become a leading light in your new attainment,” he urged.
Dr. Anyaso also commended Governor Alex Otti for appointing a “remarkably talented and dynamic Chief Law Officer” to lead Abia State’s legal affairs, emphasizing that the moment marked not only a personal triumph for Uwanna but also a testament to the rising credibility and strength of the legal profession in Abia and Nigeria at large.
The event stood as a celebration of merit, dedication, and the growing influence of Abians in the legal and governance landscapes of Nigeria.
