The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has linked the rising wave of insecurity in Nigeria to the collapse of family values.
Speaking on Thursday at the closing of the 2025 edition of Exercise Haske Biyu at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Kaduna, Musa stressed that strengthening the family unit is crucial to tackling security challenges.
“The family is the bedrock of every community. Without the family, there can’t be a good community. What we have realised is that because the family system is failing, insecurity is growing, which means if we address the family issues, insecurity will go down,” he said.
The CDS noted that the exercise focused on family values, civic duties, and moral resilience as core elements in addressing security challenges facing Nigeria and other participating nations.
He urged families to instil discipline, respect, and love in children, insisting that these values shape responsible citizens and by extension, a safer society.
