Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has adjourned the terrorism trial of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, to October 16, 2025.
The adjournment followed the inability of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to submit its report on Kanu’s health condition before the court.
During the previous sitting, Justice Omotosho had directed the President of the NMA to constitute a medical board to examine Kanu’s health. The board was mandated to determine whether the medical facilities at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters were adequate for his treatment or if he should be transferred to the National Hospital, as requested by his legal team.
The report is also expected to assess Kanu’s fitness to stand trial.
At Wednesday’s proceedings, counsel for the DSS, Mr. Suraj S’aad, SAN, informed the court that the NMA medical board had not yet completed its findings and that the report was not ready for submission.
He consequently requested a one-week adjournment to allow the medical board finalize its investigation.
Following no objection from the defence, Justice Omotosho granted the application and fixed October 16, 2025, for the submission of the medical report and continuation of proceedings.
