The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Debo Ologunagba, has said that Nigerians are eagerly waiting for the party to reconcile its internal differences and present a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday about preparations for the party’s upcoming national convention scheduled for November 15–16, Ologunagba said the widespread interest in the event reflects Nigerians’ confidence in the PDP’s role in safeguarding democracy.
“Nigerians are eager to know what the PDP is doing to put itself together as a party because they see our vibrancy as key to the sustenance of democracy in the country,” he said.
Describing the convention as “critical to Nigeria’s democratic future,” Ologunagba noted that the PDP’s 16 years in power were marked by strong economic performance and progressive governance.
“Under the PDP, Nigeria’s debts were paid, inflation was contained, and GDP growth reached double digits. By 2015, our economy had grown to over $600 billion, making Nigeria the number one investment destination in Africa,” he said.
He added that the party had set up 15 broad-based subcommittees to ensure the convention is inclusive and successful.
Addressing reports that one of the PDP governors might defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ologunagba said such speculation would not derail the party’s preparations, stressing that “the PDP is bigger than any individual.”
On the recent controversy surrounding the Edo State congress, Ologunagba explained that the exercise held on September 27 was conducted by a duly constituted committee, with an appeal panel in place to handle any grievances.
He dismissed claims of a parallel congress as a “public show to satisfy paymasters behind the illegality.”
