The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the dissolution of all its local government and ward executive committees in Enugu State ahead of the anticipated defection of Governor Peter Mbah from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling party.
Chairman of the APC State Caretaker Committee, Dr Ben Nwoye, made the announcement on Sunday during a stakeholders’ meeting for the Enugu West Senatorial District held in Enugu. The gathering brought together party chieftains, local government coordinators, ward leaders, and other key stakeholders from across the senatorial zone.
Nwoye explained that the decision followed a directive from the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and was taken after extensive consultations with critical party stakeholders at both the national and state levels.
According to him, the dissolution aims to pave the way for a more inclusive and dynamic leadership structure that will strengthen the APC’s presence at the grassroots and foster unity within the party.
“This dissolution is not a punishment; rather, it is a strategic move to rebuild the APC in Enugu State from the ground up. We want a party structure that truly represents the interests of our members, one that will be inclusive, transparent, and accountable,” Nwoye stated.
He noted that in recent years, the party in Enugu had faced internal divisions, factionalism, and leadership crises that weakened its political base. The new restructuring, he said, would enable the APC to start afresh with a unified and purpose-driven focus ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Nwoye added that a reconstitution process would soon begin, during which credible and committed members would be selected to occupy leadership positions at both the ward and local government levels. He assured that the process would be transparent and open to all members interested in serving.
Calling for unity among members, Nwoye urged party faithful to view the restructuring as a positive step toward repositioning the APC for success in Enugu politics.
“Unity is the foundation for success in any political organization. We must come together as one family if we are to make meaningful progress. The APC remains a strong platform for change, and with this new restructuring, we are confident that Enugu will soon become a stronghold of the party,” he said.
Several stakeholders at the meeting applauded the caretaker committee’s decision, describing it as timely and courageous. They emphasized that the move would help address longstanding issues of marginalization, poor coordination, and weak leadership that had hindered the party’s growth in the state.
Others expressed optimism that the reorganization would bring in fresh leadership and new ideas capable of driving the APC to victory in future elections.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from party members to work collectively in rebuilding the APC’s structures and expanding its political influence across Enugu State.
