The lawmaker representing Sabon Gari Federal Constituency, Sadiq Abdullahi, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s internal crisis and loss of direction as his reasons for leaving.
Announcing his decision on Monday, Abdullahi said prolonged factionalism within the PDP had hindered his ability to effectively serve his constituents and perform his legislative duties.
His resignation follows that of the party’s former National Secretary, Sunday Udeh Okoye, who also left amid growing dissatisfaction with the PDP’s leadership and direction.
Abdullahi, who serves as the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), conveyed his decision in a letter addressed to his ward chairman.
“The persistent internal conflicts and factionalisation within the PDP, which have culminated in a prolonged party crisis, are adversely affecting my ability to effectively represent my constituency and perform my duties optimally.
“I wish to sincerely thank the PDP for the privilege and opportunity to serve under its platform. The support, trust, and experiences I have gained during my time with the party have been invaluable,” Abdullahi stated.
PUO Reports gathered that these latest resignations come at a time of growing discontent within the PDP over its handling of internal leadership disputes and its overall strategic direction ahead of future elections.
