Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has dismissed reports suggesting he plans to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, insisting he remains firmly in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Fayose clarified that while he openly supported President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election, his political allegiance to the PDP has not changed.

“The PDP’s problem did not start today. I am not a member of the APC and I will never be. I didn’t hide my support for Asiwaju; I consider him a leader in Nigeria and particularly from our zone,” Fayose said.

He described Tinubu as a respected national leader, especially from the South-West, but emphasized that his support was based on regional respect, not party alignment.

Fayose’s remarks come amid a wave of defections that has hit the PDP, with several governors, lawmakers, and party leaders recently crossing over to the APC — a trend that has raised concerns about the weakening of opposition politics in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
