The Ohanaeze Ndigbo community in Lagos State has declared its support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence in his leadership and chances of victory.

Chief Sunday Udeh, President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos, made the declaration during a reconciliation meeting convened by Dr Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, Lead Visioner of the Lagos4Lagos Movement.

The parley, held in Lagos, was aimed at promoting unity and understanding between Yoruba and Igbo residents following recent demolitions in some parts of the state.

Speaking with newsmen, Udeh called on both ethnic groups to continue to live peacefully and avoid divisive sentiments, describing President Tinubu as a seasoned leader deserving of another term.

“We are not in doubt of his victory in 2027. We know our party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, will win again,” Udeh stated.

He urged the Lagos State Government to sustain its engagement with the Igbo community and other ethnic groups to promote inclusiveness and mutual trust.

Udeh also acknowledged that the relationship between the Igbo community and the state government had been strained since the 2023 elections but expressed optimism that renewed dialogue would restore confidence and cooperation.

“2027 is close. We know our party will take it. I am a member and will work for the party,” he added.

Deacon Charles Obih, National President of the Market Leaders Association of Nigeria (TMLAN), also pledged the support of the Igbo business community for President Tinubu’s re-election.

“We will mobilize our members to ensure President Tinubu’s re-election is smooth and successful by the grace of God,” Obih said, praising the President’s leadership and resilience.

“To be frank, if God had not brought a man like him, we don’t know where this country would be today,” he added.

In his remarks, Dr Okey Anorue, Eze Ndigbo of Igbogbo/Bayeku and Babaloja of Tejuosho Market, called for greater unity between the Yoruba and Igbo communities, warning against politicians who may attempt to exploit ethnic divisions.

“We need a peaceful environment. The Yoruba are our hosts, and we must respect their culture. When in Rome, behave like the Romans,” Anorue stated.

He emphasized that mutual respect and cooperation would remain essential to Lagos State’s continued peace and development as the 2027 elections approach.
