The Northern Elders Unity Forum of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and his political allies of attempting to destroy the party and undermine opposition politics in Nigeria.

In a communiqué issued at the end of its 18th General Meeting, the Forum reaffirmed its confidence in the leadership of the PDP Acting National Chairman, Iliya Umar Damagum.

The elders condemned what they described as desperate efforts by some members to derail the forthcoming National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

In a statement signed by the Forum’s National Secretary, Abbas Sadauki, the group emphasized that its commitment to defending the unity of the party remained firm and resolute.

“No amount of political intimidation, blackmail, or lies against the unity of the party will stop the successful organization of the national convention in Ibadan,” Sadauki stated.

He alleged that some members of the National Working Committee (NWC) were working in collaboration with external political forces to destabilize the PDP.

“Those misleading groups within the party to scuttle the convention are mere jokers — predators unleashed against the collective interest. Their unholy alliance with enemies of progress will soon end in political shame and regret,” Sadauki said.

The Forum further alleged that the internal sabotage within the party was being driven by Wike’s political influence and personal ambitions.

Expressing solidarity with the current leadership, the elders commended Ambassador Damagum and other loyal stakeholders for their commitment to ensuring unity and stability within the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group also cautioned the judiciary and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against political actors allegedly attempting to manipulate national institutions to weaken democracy.

Reaffirming its loyalty to the PDP leadership, the Northern Elders Unity Forum declared that the decision of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to proceed with the convention remains binding and must be respected by all members.
