Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has said his experience in restoring peace and rebuilding security during his time in office makes him the most qualified aspirant for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking to party stakeholders in a video shared on his Facebook page on Thursday, Amaechi recalled the severe insecurity that gripped Rivers State before his administration assumed office, describing how Port Harcourt had been overrun by criminals.
According to him, when he became governor, economic and social life in the state capital had collapsed due to rampant killings, kidnappings, and robberies.
He said, “I served as a governor in a state where people were being killed and being kidnapped. Robbery was on the increase, people couldn’t go out in Port Harcourt. Parties weren’t going on and hospitals were in crisis. The only source of entertainment to men was their wives, but in six months after we came in, we chased away the criminals.”
Amaechi added that his administration’s success in restoring order and revitalizing the economy demonstrated his capacity to tackle similar challenges facing Nigeria today.
“We called people to go back to work and parties and asked them to do whatever they wanted to do. So I am the only aspirant of the party that does not only come with experience but has served in a state where what is facing us now has faced us,” he stated.

Amaechi emphasised that his leadership experience, especially in managing insecurity and reviving the economy under pressure, gives him a unique edge over other aspirants within the ADC as the party prepares for the 2027 presidential election.
