The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has informed the Federal High Court in Abuja that some of his witnesses in his ongoing terrorism trial will be coming from Ethiopia, Kenya, and the United States.
Kanu made the disclosure on Friday before Justice James Omotosho, following a motion he filed on October 21, in which he listed prominent Nigerians and foreign nationals he intends to call in his defence.
In the application he personally signed, Kanu stated that he plans to call 23 witnesses divided into two groups — the first comprising “ordinary but material witnesses” and the second made up of “vital and compellable” witnesses who will be “summoned under Section 232 of the Evidence Act, 2011.”
He also urged the court to grant him a 90-day time frame to enable him to conclude his defence, given the number and locations of his proposed witnesses.
Following the filing of the motion, Kanu disengaged his defence team, choosing instead to represent himself in the trial.
