Edo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jarrett Tenebe, has said that any commissioner barred from the State Executive Council meeting for failing to wear the ‘Asiwaju cap’ as directed by Governor Monday Okpebholo will face suspension from the party.

Governor Okpebholo had, on October 14, during the swearing-in of newly cleared commissioners and the inauguration of boards and commissions, instructed cabinet members to demonstrate their loyalty to President Bola Tinubu through branded outfits.

Tenebe described failure to comply with the directive as an act of indiscipline and insubordination, warning that the APC would not condone any form of disloyalty.

“If you refuse to wear the cap as the governor has directed, we will suspend you. That is indiscipline and insubordination. We are doing this because we have made a promise that 3.5 million votes are guaranteed for President Bola Tinubu. Everybody has keyed into achieving that target,” he said.

The Edo APC chairman added that party members who hold government positions must show their allegiance to the President, stressing that wearing the ‘Asiwaju cap’ is a visible sign of loyalty.

“If, as a member of the APC, you got an appointment, you are supposed to be loyal to the President. We are expressing our loyalty to him by wearing the cap. Those complaining are not members of the APC. We in Edo have made it clear — no Asiwaju cap, no Exco,” Tenebe stated.
