President Bola Tinubu says Nigeria will not be intimidated by international threats following recent comments by United States President Donald Trump over alleged attacks on Christians in the country.
In a statement posted on his verified X account on Friday, Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s sovereignty and commitment to addressing its internal security challenges. He said the nation would continue to engage globally with “calm, clarity, and a strong sense of purpose.”
Addressing the security situation, the President acknowledged that terrorism has been a persistent problem but assured citizens that his administration remains determined to defeat it.
“We are indeed faced with terrorism, a challenge Nigeria has faced for almost two decades, and we will not back down. We will decisively defeat terrorism and claim victory in this battle. Security is non-negotiable, and we will never compromise on this principle. With unwavering courage and a steadfast commitment to the rule of law, we will prevail,” Tinubu stated.
He emphasised that national security cannot be compromised and pledged that his government would use every resource available to restore peace. Tinubu also urged Nigeria’s international partners to continue offering support, noting that cooperation is vital to consolidating ongoing efforts.
The statement follows Trump’s recent warning that he had directed the US Defense Department to prepare for possible military action in Nigeria if the government “continues to allow the killing of Christians.” Trump had earlier designated Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern CPC over allegations of religious persecution.
