The Forum of State Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party has restated its loyalty to factional National Chairman Umar Damagum, rejecting the leadership claim made by Abdulrahman Mohammed.
The chairmen, representing 29 states, issued a statement after a meeting on Thursday, describing Mohammed’s faction as illegitimate. They maintained that Damagum remains the recognised national chairman under the party’s 2017 constitution.
According to the statement, “The forum in the same vein dissociates itself from the purported Abdurahman leadership and wants to categorically say that the PDP has only one National Chairman, His Excellency Umar Damagun.”
The forum also praised what it called effective cooperation between the National Working Committee, the PDP Governors’ Forum led by Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed, and the Board of Trustees chaired by Adolphus Wabara.
