Security analyst and Terrorism Research Consultant Dr Yahuza Getso says Nigeria can defeat terrorism within weeks if the Federal Government releases the list of those funding criminal groups.
Speaking in an interview on Arise Television on Thursday Getso urged authorities to make public the identities of alleged sponsors and insisted insecurity could end rapidly if action is taken.
“The Nigerian government has said repeatedly that it will release the list of financiers of these criminals. We need that list to identify them. We can resolve this matter within 17–32 days. The number of foreign terrorists is very small” he stated.
He added “If we are serious and honest with ourselves we can handle this matter within 17 days. some state governors claim there are foreigners involved well I cannot say there are no foreigners but the number is very minute and involves mostly few foreigners through the belt of Lake Chad basin.”
According to him most violent actors in the North Central North East and other regions are Nigerians. He noted that he has carried out profiling at multiple levels including polling units wards local governments state assemblies and federal constituencies.
Getso also questioned dialogue approaches in some states saying “We have had many of these states like Katsina and some of them saying that they conduct dialogue with them. You can’t call it a non kinetic measure because if it’s a measure they could have dropped their arms.”
