The Nafiu Bala Gombe faction of the African Democratic Congress has urged party members, Nigerians, and the international community to disregard the purported new national headquarters announced by the camp aligned with former Senate President David Mark.
In a statement issued on Monday, Gombe described the move as an unlawful attempt to seize control of the party’s leadership, asserting that the ADC is guided by democracy, integrity, and respect for its constitution.
Gombe said the Mark-led group holds no “constitutional, moral, or legal authority” to speak for the party or represent its interests.
According to the statement, the faction is an aggrieved breakaway group operating outside recognised party structures after failing to influence internal democratic processes for personal gain.
The statement further said the building showcased as a new national headquarters is merely a private facility belonging to an unauthorised association and has no link to the legitimate party leadership. It described the move as a disruptive and anti-democratic attempt to mislead the public and undermine the will of party members.
Gombe called on Nigerians, party supporters, and key institutions, including the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies, and the media, to acknowledge only the directives issued from the recognised ADC National Secretariat.
He added that the legitimate party leadership remains committed to offering a credible political alternative, noting that legal and constitutional measures are being pursued to address the situation and uphold party order.
