The All Progressives Congress has criticised the Peoples Democratic Party over a call by its factional chairman, Tanimu Turaki, for foreign intervention in Nigeria, describing the appeal as reckless and unpatriotic.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka faulted Turaki’s remarks, in which he urged foreign powers to intervene to address what he alleged to be “Christian genocide” and to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy.
Morka said Turaki’s position reflected desperation and confusion, arguing that Nigerians had expected him to focus on reconciling the factions within his party rather than seeking external involvement in the country’s affairs.
He noted that the PDP’s internal crisis required dialogue and peace-building, not what he called an irresponsible call for a foreign “invasion.”
Morka stated that even during the PDP’s 16 years in power—when, according to him, opposition parties faced the subversion of their activities—there was no instance where foreign intervention was sought as a remedy for intra-party disputes.
He added that the APC trusted the international community to disregard Turaki’s appeal, describing it as a distraction from the PDP’s failure to uphold internal democracy and manage its ongoing fragmentation.
