The factional Board of Trustees of the African Democratic Congress aligned with the party’s factional National Chairman, Nafiu Bala, has declared the David Mark-led coalition an unlawful body operating under a rival leadership structure.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, the factional BoT Secretary, Rufus Ekenmi, accused the coalition of infiltrating the party through what he described as an illegitimate arrangement and attempting to impose “the political spirit of insubordination” on the ADC.
The faction directed Bala to reactivate a disciplinary committee to penalize any party member engaging politically with figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, David Mark, Nasir El-Rufai, Rauf Aregbesola, Abubakar Malami, Babachir Lawal, Emeka Ihedioha, Liyel Imoke, and others linked to the coalition.
Responding to his endorsement by the faction, Bala reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the ADC constitution and pledged fairness and objectivity in steering the party.
He accused the coalition of violating the party’s rules by running activities from what he described as a parallel headquarters.
According to him, “our party constitution unambiguously stipulates that only registered members in good standing are entitled to party privileges, including access to official premises.”
