The Benue State Government has refuted reports alleging that Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia plans to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) following a purported secret meeting with former PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.
In a statement on Wednesday, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula, described the claim as a fabricated and malicious attempt to distract the governor and mislead the presidency for political advantage.
The government clarified that Governor Alia routinely meets elder statesmen and national figures as part of his inclusive leadership style, noting that such engagements carry no political or religious undertone.
The statement emphasized that the governor’s outreach to key Benue stakeholders has strengthened the APC, citing defections by influential figures such as former Senator Prof. David Iornem, Elder David Iorwashima Amo, and Ambassador Terhemen Tarzoor. It added that defectors continue to join the party across various local government areas.
According to the government, the real political development in Benue is the expansion and consolidation of the APC under Governor Alia, contrary to the narrative pushed by what it called “mischief makers.”
Governor Alia remains committed to building the party ahead of 2027 and is open to engaging even his fiercest political opponents in furtherance of his administration’s development agenda.
The public was urged to disregard the report, which officials described as an effort to sow confusion and undermine ongoing progress in the state.
