Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has urged the Federal Government to prioritise recruiting military and police personnel from regions most affected by insecurity and deploying them to their home states.
In a post shared on his verified X handle on Wednesday, Sani argued that security operatives are more effective when posted to familiar terrain, noting that officers from the area understand the environment better than those deployed from other regions.
He further stressed the need for improved training and advanced equipment to strengthen security operations nationwide.
Sani’s remarks come amid worsening security challenges across the country, including frequent abductions of citizens and schoolchildren.
“In combatting bandits and terrorists, the recruitment of military and police personnel should place emphasis on regions with the highest levels of insecurity. They should be recruited, trained, equipped and sent to their states and regions to fight the criminals. They know their terrain better than anyone,” he said.
