The Northern States Governors Forum and the Northern Traditional Leaders Council are holding an emergency meeting at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna as security challenges worsen across the region.

The session is addressing the increasing incidents of banditry terrorism kidnapping and clashes between farmers and herders that have claimed hundreds of lives and displaced thousands in recent months.

The closed door meeting is jointly chaired by the Forums Chairman and Gombe State Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya and the Sultan of Sokoto Muhammadu Saad Abubakar III representing the traditional leadership. Discussions are centered almost entirely on the escalating insecurity in Northern Nigeria.

Insecurity in the region has intensified in recent weeks. At least 24 schoolgirls were abducted by bandits in Kebbi State but were later reported to have regained their freedom.

Similarly bandits abducted no fewer than 200 school children from a Catholic private school in Niger State with about 50 reportedly escaping and reuniting with their families.
