Former acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Umar Damagum, has formally handed over leadership to the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC).
Damagum’s tenure officially ended on December 8, 2025, after months of leadership disputes involving the faction backed by the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.
The handover ceremony took place at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, Damagum said the newly inaugurated NWC has been entrusted with the responsibility of rebuilding and repositioning the PDP.
“We were able to overcome the challenges we faced, and we will continue to overcome them,” he said.
He maintained that the PDP remains the strongest political force in the country despite attempts to destabilize it.
“That’s why they lose sleep over PDP. They keep placing hurdles before us, but God will see us through. God does not support injustice,” he added.
Damagum warned that individuals fueling internal crises may find temporary relief but would eventually face the consequences of their actions.
In his response, Turaki commended the outgoing NWC and pledged to work tirelessly for the unity and progress of the party.
