Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago has formally received the one hundred rescued students of St Mary’s Catholic School who were abducted on November 21, 2025.
The children were handed over to the governor on Monday at the Government House in Minna by Wing Commander Abdullahi Idi Hong. He represented the National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
During the handover, the NSA assured Nigerians that the Federal Government remains committed to strengthening safety across all communities. He said “We will continue to come up with policies to ensure the safety of every Nigerian child.”
Governor Bago described the safe return of the children as a significant moment in the history of Niger State. He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the NSA and all partners who contributed to the rescue effort.
He also urged continued prayers for the safe release of the remaining students and teachers who are still being held. He said “We will continue to also pray for the recovery of the remaining children in captivity. We will ensure they are reunited with their parents soon.”
Following the short ceremony, the students were transported by bus to Kontagora where they will reunite with their parents and families.
