Kabiru Turaki, the newly elected National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, met with state chairmen in Abuja on Wednesday in the first major engagement since the Ibadan Convention.
The meeting, held at the Musa Yar’Adua Centre, brought together at least twenty nine chairmen, led by the chairman of the Edo State PDP, Tony Aziegbemi. Each participant introduced themselves as representatives of their respective states.
The gathering marks the start of a series of consultations planned by the Turaki led National Working Committee as it moves to consolidate its leadership and strengthen the party’s internal structure.
Welcoming the chairmen, Turaki urged them to bring forward bold and strategic ideas that will “strengthen the party and propel it toward success and victory.”
He also dismissed the activities of “expelled and former members” aligned with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and Samuel Anyanwu, who recently inaugurated a caretaker committee claiming to steer the party toward a new National Convention.
Turaki urged the state chairmen to remain focused on the tasks ahead, stressing that the PDP under his leadership will be firm, steady and consistent.
The meeting later moved into a closed door session.
