A heated exchange broke out on Thursday between senators Adams Oshiomhole and Ali Ndume during the Senate’s screening of Reno Omokri for an ambassadorial position.

The argument, captured on video during the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs session, showed both lawmakers disagreeing sharply on Omokri’s suitability and the screening process.

Oshiomhole backed Omokri’s nomination, insisting the former presidential aide has consistently defended Nigeria and demonstrated patriotism. Ndume, however, argued that due process must be strictly followed before any endorsement.

At one point, Oshiomhole rebuked Ndume, saying, “Until you are called, you cannot shut me down… You’re not the chairman and cannot exercise the power you don’t have.”

He further defended Omokri, describing him as a “pragmatist” willing to admit when he is wrong, and urged senators to support him in the interest of “progressive governance.”

Oshiomhole also asserted his own authority, saying, “I proudly said I was a governor… so when I speak, those who are not governors should listen.”
