The Supreme Court has reaffirmed that the President has the constitutional authority to declare a state of emergency in any part of the country where public safety or effective governance is under serious threat.

In its ruling the court explained that this power can be exercised when there is a clear risk of a breakdown of law and order or when conditions are likely to slide into chaos or anarchy if urgent action is not taken.

The justices stressed that the provision exists to protect national stability and to ensure that democratic institutions continue to function during extraordinary situations.

According to the court emergency powers are not meant for routine governance but are reserved strictly for exceptional circumstances where existing mechanisms are no longer sufficient to contain a growing crisis.

The ruling reinforces the constitutional framework that allows decisive intervention to preserve peace security and order when the nation faces severe challenges.
