The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos state has inaugurated a 19-member caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the party in the state.
The party also announced January 9, 2026, as the date for the Congress in zone, ward, local and national levels.
The inauguration, which took place on Wednesday in Lagos, was conducted under the leadership of the National Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee, Hon. Abdul-Raman Mohammed.
The national chairman was represented at the event by the PDP deputy national secretary, Engineer Adedeji Doherty.
Speaking at the inauguration, Doherty charged members of the newly inaugurated caretaker committee to remain united and strictly adhere to the party’s constitution in the discharge of their duties.
He disclosed that former executive members of the party in the state had endorsed the caretaker committee, stressing that unity and loyalty to the party were critical to rebuilding its strength in Lagos.
He said, “I urge everyone to unite and support the PDP because the party belongs to all of us,” Doherty said. “The constitution remains our guiding document, and all members, especially the incoming chairman and executives, must be guided by it.”
He emphasised that leadership within the party should be based on service rather than personal ambition, noting that public office holders are servants of the people and not rulers.
Doherty also used the occasion to reflect on internal challenges facing the party at the national and regional levels, calling for strict compliance with the PDP constitution and respect for established party traditions.
According to him, the caretaker committee represents an opportunity for the party to reposition itself, restore discipline, and regain public confidence ahead of future political contests.
Speaking on behalf of the newly sworn-in caretaker committee, the new State chairman of the caretaker committee, Elder Kayode Ogunbiyi, said the inauguration marks renewed effort by the PDP to strengthen its internal structure and rebuild its presence in Lagos State.
He announced the dissolution of all congresses held prior to the inauguration of the caretaker committee while advising members to be prepared for another Congress slated for January 9, 2026.
“From January 9, 2026, fresh Congress will commence in the southwest. We give assurances that intent forms will be made available to all and sundry and not to selected individuals as was the case in the last Congress,” he pledged.
