The Peoples Democratic Party in the Federal Capital Territory has declared its readiness for the February 21, 2026, area council elections.
The declaration was made in a statement released on Sunday by the FCT Publicity Secretary of the party, Josephine Itoyah Splendor.
The party affirmed that all its candidates participating in the polls are duly qualified and have received official recognition from both the national leadership of the party and the Independent National Electoral Commission.
This assurance comes amid ongoing internal disagreements within the party, including disputes involving a faction reportedly aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and other party stakeholders.
“Our candidates, men and women of proven integrity and commitment, have been duly approved and signed in by the Damagum led National Working Committee,” the statement said.
The opposition party further stated that it is approaching the elections as a united front and remains confident of victory, dismissing claims questioning the legitimacy of its candidates as misinformation.
