Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has confirmed that he will contest the 2027 general elections.
Obi made the disclosure on Sunday night while speaking during a X Spaces session, where he addressed supporters on his political future and leadership ambitions.
The former governor of Anambra State, however, made it clear that he would not accept a vice presidential slot under any circumstance, stressing that his political journey and experience were geared toward leading the country.
According to Obi, he has invested years gaining global exposure and practical knowledge in governance, which he believes positions him for the highest office rather than a supporting role.
“I am not travelling round the world to learn governance to be Vice president,” Obi said.
He further expressed confidence in his capacity to lead the nation, adding, “I know how to turn Nigeria around. I built my business from scratch and have more experience than any candidate, including the sitting President.
“Peter Obi will be on the ballot in 2027. I need your support. I need your prayers.”
Obi’s declaration effectively puts an end to speculations about a possible vice presidential bid and signals his intention to remain a central figure in Nigeria’s 2027 presidential race.
