Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has accused the Federal Government of using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to target him politically over his refusal to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

The governor made the allegation on Wednesday in Bauchi while signing the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law.

Mohammed lamented that one of his commissioners is currently being detained by the EFCC, describing the action as politically motivated.

“As a governor and the head of the opposition, my commissioner has been kept and will not be released by the EFCC,” he said.

He further alleged that despite enjoying constitutional immunity, his name was cited in a court motion, which he described as unprecedented and disturbing.

“Even when I have immunity as a governor, my name was stupendously mentioned in a motion in a court of law in Nigeria. Me, Bala Mohammed,” he stated.

The Bauchi governor accused the APC-led Federal Government of attempting to use state institutions and the judiciary to intimidate opposition figures.

According to him, the strategy is aimed at coercing political opponents into joining the ruling party.

Mohammed maintained that no level of intimidation or harassment would compel him to defect to the APC.
