Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have returned a ₦100,000 cash transfer sent to their personal bank accounts on the directive of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The development was disclosed in a statement signed by Hon. Enemi Aabo George, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Petitions and Complaints.

According to the statement, on December 30, 2025, lawmakers of the 10th Rivers State House of Assembly received bank alerts of ₦100,000 each, which were described as unsolicited and unapproved.

The lawmakers said the funds were transferred on the governor’s instruction without legislative consent.

“Upon discovery of these unsolicited and unapproved transfers, Honourable members of the House took immediate steps to formally return the said funds to the account of the Rivers State Government,” the statement said.

The Assembly stressed that as a constitutionally established institution, all public spending must follow due process, including prior legislative approval.

The lawmakers further accused Governor Fubara of consistently withdrawing funds from the state’s Consolidated Revenue Account without approval since assuming office in 2025, despite repeated warnings from the House, Supreme Court judgments, and constitutional provisions on separation of powers.

The development comes amid renewed political tensions involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
