Factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, has declared that the party has been freed from what he described as a “shackle of bondage” following the defection of Peter Obi, its presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections.

Abure made the statement in his New Year message to party members, saying Obi’s exit marked a turning point for the Labour Party.

According to him, the party remains firmly aligned with Nigerians through a broader coalition and continues to represent the best alternative for building a prosperous nation.

He described 2025 as a year of mixed experiences, noting that the Labour Party, under his leadership, overcame numerous internal challenges that threatened its stability.

“Fellow Nigerians and particularly, Labour Party members across the globe, it is with joy that I welcome everyone to the new year. 2025 indeed was a spectacular year filled with mixed feelings for which we give all the glory to the Almighty,” Abure said.

He added, “The shackles of bondage holding the party down more than a year now is finally broken with the 31st December, 2025 incidence in Enugu.”

Abure maintained that the developments of the past year have positioned the Labour Party to move forward with renewed focus and unity.
