At least six Nigerian soldiers have been killed and five others injured following an improvised explosive device (IED) attack on a military convoy in Borno State.
The incident occurred on Sunday along the Damasak–Kareto road when one of the convoy vehicles ran over a buried explosive.
Sources said the soldiers were on their way to Damasak for operational clearance when the explosion happened.
Residents in the area disclosed that the explosive device was allegedly planted by Boko Haram fighters who are active in the region.
According to reports, six soldiers died instantly at the scene, while five others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The injured personnel were immediately evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment.
Videos circulating online after the attack showed a severely damaged military vehicle at the scene of the explosion.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian military had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
