The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has vowed that no one will stop him from frustrating Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike made the declaration on Sunday while addressing supporters during his visit to Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State.

He accused Governor Fubara of reneging on agreements on two different occasions, insisting that the political mistake made in 2023 would not be repeated.

The former Rivers State governor stressed that nobody had the authority to issue him instructions concerning political affairs in the state.

“I heard people saying that they will call me from the top and give me instructions. Let me tell you, there is nothing like instruction as far as Rivers State is concerned. Nobody will call me,” Wike said.

“You had the first agreement, somebody reneged. The second agreement, he reneged. So which call will you accept again? We will not make that mistake again.”

Wike noted that his stance was not driven by personal interest, adding that he was already comfortable in his role as FCT minister.

“It has nothing to do with me as a person. As Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, I am very comfortable,” he said.

According to him, the issue is about protecting the people and the political relevance of Rivers State.

“When I was governor, Rivers State was respected nationally. When I spoke then, you knew Rivers State was in charge,” he stated.

He further recalled that Rivers State challenged the Federal Government during his tenure and won several cases, maintaining that the state was politically strong at the time.

“When I was governor, I challenged the Federal Government and we won. Now that the opposition has collapsed, everybody is shouting ‘mandate’. Why didn’t you shout ‘mandate’ before?” he asked.

Wike and Governor Fubara have recently resumed open political hostilities as the incumbent governor positions himself for a re-election bid in 2027.
