Paul Ibe, Special Adviser on Media to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed reports suggesting that Atiku and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have held talks on compromising the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ibe made the clarification on Wednesday during an interview on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television.
According to him, no such discussion has taken place between Atiku and Obi, stressing that their current focus is on building a strong and credible political platform capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Like I said earlier, having that kind of conversation is putting the cart before the horse. Obi and Atiku have not had that conversation as far as the ADC is concerned,” Ibe said.
He explained that both leaders are more concerned with ensuring that the ADC emerges as a robust alternative platform for Nigerians, rather than engaging in discussions about ticket-sharing or stepping down.
“If the platform of the ADC is not robust enough, their aspirations and ambitions will come to nothing. They are trying to build a solid platform. Any other thing is a distraction brought about by the President Tinubu-led administration,” he added.
Recalls that Atiku Abubakar recently stated that no presidential aspirant would step down for another in the ADC presidential race, emphasizing that all aspirants would be allowed to contest freely.
