The Rivers State House of Assembly has announced it will resume plenary today, bringing forward its earlier scheduled resumption date of January 26.
It was reports that the sudden decision comes amid the intensifying political rivalry between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Recall that the majority of members of the Rivers State House of Assembly are believed to be loyal to the FCT Minister and have openly vowed to oppose Governor Fubara ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The deepening power struggle between Wike and Fubara has heightened political tension, creating uncertainty and anxiety across the oil-rich Niger Delta state.
