The political situation in Rivers State escalated further on Thursday as members of the State House of Assembly formally initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy, Ngozi Oduh.

During a plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, the Majority Leader of the House, Major Jack, read a notice outlining allegations of gross misconduct against Governor Fubara.

The notice, which was endorsed by 26 lawmakers, accused the governor of actions alleged to be in violation of the Nigerian Constitution.

Speaker Amaewhule announced that the notice of impeachment would be formally served on the governor within the next seven days, in line with legislative procedures.

In the same sitting, the Deputy Majority Leader, Linda Stewart, read a separate notice detailing allegations of gross misconduct against the Deputy Governor, Ngozi Oduh.

The development marks a significant escalation in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State and signals the beginning of a potentially prolonged impeachment process, according to PUO Reports.
