The All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has said the ongoing political crisis involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, originated from internal issues within the Peoples Democratic Party.
The Rivers APC spokesperson, Darlington Nwuju, made the claim while responding to questions on Politics Today, a programme aired on Channels Television on Thursday.
According to Nwuju, the political tensions currently affecting the state were inherited from the PDP and have now extended into the APC following recent developments.
Governor Fubara and Minister Wike have been locked in a prolonged political rivalry over influence, power, and control of political structures in Rivers State. The situation escalated on Thursday when the State House of Assembly, largely aligned with Wike, initiated impeachment proceedings against the governor.
Nwuju said, “Now I know you are aware that these are issues that is dovetailing into our party. These are issues that were occurring within the People’s Democratic Party. So it’s is now as if we have inherited these challenges.
“I have assured you earlier on that with intervention of the leader of our party and the president of the nation that this issue will be resolved once and for all. It will not go into full mug. I want to assure you this is a political issue. This is a political disagreement, and so you must see it in that light.
“Yes, it does have legal implications and constitutional implications, but I want to assure you that it will be handled in the way and manner that Nigerians will be happy for it and Rivers State will be able to move forward from where we are today.”
The APC spokesman expressed confidence that with the intervention of party leadership and the presidency, the crisis would be resolved without further escalation, allowing governance and stability to return to Rivers State, according to PUO Reports.
