The Rivers State House of Assembly has confirmed that the impeachment notice against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy has been successfully served.
The confirmation followed the emergency plenary session held on Thursday, during which the Assembly formally commenced impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy.
A total of 26 lawmakers accused Governor Fubara of alleged misconduct capable of undermining democratic governance in the state.
The impeachment notice, addressed to the governor, reportedly carried the signatures of at least 19 members of the House and outlined about eight alleged acts of gross misconduct attributed to the governor and his administration.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the Assembly said, “The impeachment notice has been successfully served on the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara”.
The development marks another significant step in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, as the impeachment process moves into its next phase, according to PUO Reports.
