Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has warned that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) risks political failure in the 2027 general elections if it does not field Peter Obi as its presidential candidate.
Fayose made the remark on Monday during an interview on Arise Television, where he described Obi as the most significant political figure within the ADC.
According to him, Obi’s influence has proven decisive in the past, citing the Labour Party’s unexpected electoral success after Obi joined the platform in 2023.
“Obi is the only person in ADC that truly matters. When Obi moved to the Labour Party, a party many Nigerians barely knew, it went on to win seats in the House of Representatives,” Fayose said.
He clarified that his statement was not a prediction of Obi’s chances in 2027 but a reflection of the political value he brings to any party.
“I am not saying Obi will win this election, and I am not saying he cannot win. But I am saying that if the ADC fails to field Obi, the party’s situation will be worse than before its current alliance,” Fayose added.
Peter Obi and several prominent South-East political leaders recently aligned with the ADC, a development that has intensified debates over the party’s strategy and viability ahead of the 2027 elections, according to PUO Reports.
