Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been eliminated from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following a 4–2 penalty shootout defeat to host nation Morocco in Wednesday night’s semi-final.
The tightly contested encounter ended goalless after regulation time, with both teams struggling to carve out clear-cut chances. Despite moments of promise, Nigeria failed to make the most of the few opportunities that came their way.
Extra time also failed to produce a breakthrough, forcing the match to be decided from the penalty spot.
In the shootout, Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemachi missed their spot-kicks for the Super Eagles, while Morocco’s Atlas Lions were flawless, converting all four of their penalties to secure a place in the final.
With the victory, Morocco advance to the AFCON 2025 final, where they will face Senegal. Nigeria, meanwhile, will battle Egypt in the third-place playoff match.
